Wise Old Owls
Darren Fairest updates us on the Wise Old Owls, sponsors of the Young Owls.
As chairman of the Young Owls, I was delighted to receive an invitation to the Wise Old Owls, 2007 Christmas lunch, held last December at the Hillsborough stadium.
Having been entertained by a local choir and committee member speeches, we were served a splendid 3 course traditional Christmas meal in a friendly and warm atmosphere. Afterwards the entertainment continued with local comedian Wayne Biggins and 3 members of a local operatic society who sang Christmas carols and a series of wonderful ‘golden oldie’ tunes.
Established in 2001 by Eric & Marjorie Kirby, The Wise Old Owls, function as an over 50’s luncheon club with over 270 members based as far a field as London.

Most of the Wise Old Owls, are dedicated Sheffield Wednesday supporters but it is not all about football: later this year 49 members are travelling to Loch Lomond for a 5 – day break and last July some of the group enjoyed a trip to the German markets in Manchester.
The Wise Old Owls are also fundraisers for the Macmillan Trust and several other local charities.
For a fee of £1 per year, members have the option of attending, at cost, 11 luncheons, held every third Wednesday in the month, and normally including a guest speaker.
The Wise Old Owls, are grateful to the SWFC board, especially Mr. Geoff Hulley, for the support extended to their group, and also the Sheffield Assay Office for their kind donation of a presidential gong.
